SCIENCE CAFÉS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GDANSK

We would like to invite you to open meetings in the form of science cafés bringing the scientific activities of the University's employees closer to a wider audience.

WEDNESDAY, 15 DECEMBER 2021, at 6.00 pm

The lecture "Chemistry is beautiful - or the whole truth about nanocosmetics" will be presented by Dr Beata Grobelna, Professor at the UG Department of Chemistry

Abstract: The history of the first cosmetics dates back to the 2nd century BC and the symbolic moment is considered to be the creation of the first cold cream, which consisted of beeswax, vegetable oil, olbrot and water. However, ingredients and methods of testing cosmetic products have changed radically over the centuries. The use of nanotechnology to obtain cosmetics increases the effectiveness of the active ingredients due to their easier penetration into the deeper layers of the skin. And new UV filters based on TiO2 nanoparticles and core-shell nanostructures provide better skin protection.

Can cosmetics be dangerous? What is worth paying attention to when reading cosmetics labels?

I will try to answer these and other questions during the lecture.

If you would like to ask a question, you can do so until Tuesday 14 December 2021 at oblicza.nauki@ug.edu.pl.
