PPMŚ - purpose and scope of activities

The campaign in question, through the implementation of planned activities, aims to convince its recipients to take action to reduce so-called ground-level emissions, starting with their own household. Modernization of the heating system, insulating buildings, not burning municipal waste in stoves or using a different raw material for heating homes and apartments than coal are the key actions we will want to convince the project recipients to take.

The main activity related to the implementation of the project will be the title PPMŚ based on the implementation of 4 two-day meetings in the form of "Young Scientist Clubs" for secondary school students. Classes will be conducted by students of the University of Gdansk, with the use of chemical laboratories of the university and research equipment purchased for the project. During the meetings, classes will also be held in the field, where students under the supervision of tutors will independently carry out monitoring measurements on the basis of previously prepared worksheets.

Recruitment to the "Young Scientist's Club" (40 places) will take place on the basis of applications sent in, where each potential participant in the MSP will have to demonstrate his or her own achievements related to environmental protection activities and present his or her own concept for counteracting low emissions. The relevant application form will be posted on the ZMiGM website (www.zmigm.org.pl).

An important educational component of the project will be the Knowledge Olympics on "Low Emissions" for high school students. A great advantage of the Olympics will be attractive prizes in kind, as well as the opportunity to join the recruitment process for Environmental Protection and Chemistry majors on preferential terms.

The objectives of the Olympics are, among others: to familiarize young people with issues of air pollution in Poland; to familiarize them with issues of low emissions; to draw participants' attention to the role played by clean air in the life of every human being; to shape ecological awareness and proper attitudes of young people towards the environment; to inspire the young generation to take initiatives and practical actions to protect and improve the environment; to prepare participants for issues with which they will come into contact during their future professional work or scientific careers.

The Olympics will consist of two stages: preliminaries and a final stage.

Participants in the Olympics may be any high school student studying in Poland, who: shows interest in environmental issues, with particular emphasis on air protection, who will send a completed Olympics application to the Association's address, in which he or she will present his or her proposals for solving the problem of low emissions in his or her own or any chosen municipality, as well as demonstrate previous experience in working for environmental protection. The application form, the range of literature on the final stage, as well as the Olympics regulations will be available "for download" on the Association's project sub-site.

The project will be summarized by a nationwide conference aimed at the academic community. The aim of the conference will be, among other things, to present the results of the research carried out as part of the PPMŚ meetings, as well as to present by academic scientific circles, from all over Poland, their own activities in the field in question.

During the conference there will be time to exchange experiences, as well as to share their own ideas on counteracting "low emissions."

The project also envisages a publication in the form of:

  • "Low Emissions - How to Prevent It?" guidebook;
  • a package of information folders on the impact of air pollution on human health;
  • an educational board.

containing key issues on reducing air emissions. The publications will target residents, local communities and school and university students.
