FINAL OF THE OXFORD DEBATE TOURNAMENT
Final of the oxford debate tournament
On May 18, 2022, at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdansk, the final stage of the second edition of the oxford debate tournament on the topic of sustainable development was held. The tournament is carried out within the framework of the project "Science Clubs at the University of Gdansk - known and unknown faces of science", which is conducted by the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Economics of UG.
Eight teams of high school students from the Pomeranian Voivodeship competed in the debates in the second edition, and the debate was led and judged by experienced debating students from the University of Gdansk together with academic staff.
Representatives of the following took part in the competition:
- I High School with Sports Championship Branches named after Maria Skłodowska-Curie in Sopot,
- II Boleslaw Chrobry High School in Sopot,
- XII Sports High School with Sports Championship Branches
- in Gdansk,
- XIX Marian Mokwa High School of General Education in Gdansk,
- Społeczne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Polskich Noblistów w Kwidzynie,
- The Pawel Adamowicz University High School of General Education in Gdansk,
- The Complex of Secondary Schools in Sierakowice,
- XX Zbigniew Herbert High School in Gdansk.
In the final showdown, the participants undertook to debate difficult, multi-faceted and yet highly topical theses:
- "Sustainable development requires the cessation of the cultivation of domestic crops" (debate for third and fourth place, University High School named after Pawel Adamowicz in Gdansk vs. I High School with Sports Championship Branches named after Maria Sklodowska - Curie in Sopot) and
- "Unconditional basic income is a solution to modern economic problems" (debate for first and second place, Boleslaw Chrobry High School No. 2 in Sopot vs. Marian Mokwa High School No. XIX in Gdansk).
The winner of the exciting final debate was the Boleslaw Chrobry High School II in Sopot,
Second place was taken by the XIX Marian Mokwa High School in Gdansk,
Third place was taken by the 1st High School with Sports Championships Classes
The first place was occupied by the following schools. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie in Sopot,
IV place was taken by the Pawel Adamowicz University High School of General Education in Gdansk.
We sincerely congratulate all Participants and their Guardians for their excellent preparation, great team and individual results.
The feedback session lasted a long time, which confirms the friendly atmosphere of the tournament.
